Fast Wheels, Faster Feet: Officers Outpace Suspects in Piccadilly Gardens Operation |
||
|
Officers from the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team were out in force today, supported by a specialist officer from the Motorbike Unit, delivering a proactive operation targeting illegal e-bike use and persistent anti-social behaviour in the city centre.
During the patrol, a total of eight e-bikes were seized after being found non-compliant with road traffic legislation. The operation quickly gathered pace when two riders attempted to make off from officers.
One male fled on foot, prompting a determined pursuit along Aytoun Street. However, his escape bid was short-lived thanks to the impressive athleticism of PC Zamecnik, who successfully detained him following a lengthy chase. The second male attempted to evade capture on his bike but was swiftly intercepted and detained by PC Milho from the Motorbike Unit.
Both individuals were arrested at the scene and have since been charged with a number of road traffic offences.
Meanwhile, officers continued their proactive patrols, with PC Marothi arresting a male well known to the team for ongoing anti-social behaviour. The individual had been arrested just last week for breaching a Community Protection Notice and was once again found to be in breach.
He has now been charged and remanded to court, facing in excess of 10 breaches of the notice. In addition, an application has been submitted for a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) in an effort to prevent further offending and protect the local community.
Sergeant Jon Wyatt of the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team said:
“Today’s operation highlights the team’s exuberant commitment to tackling the issues that matter most to the public. Whether it’s illegal e-bike use or persistent anti-social behaviour, we will continue to take robust action. The results today reflect the dedication, teamwork, and professionalism of our officers, and we hope it sends a clear message that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in Piccadilly Gardens.”
The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to work closely with partners and the community to ensure the area remains safe and welcoming for all.
